Omaha Community Playhouse
The
Omaha Community Playhouse presented its first
production in 1924. During the past 80-plus years
the Playhouse has become the nation's largest
community theatre in terms of size of facility
and subscription membership base. The Playhouse's
Who's Who of performers includes Dorothy McGuire,
Henry Fonda, Dodie Brando (Marlon Brando's mother),
and Peter Fonda.
Throughout the years, the Playhouse has initiated
numerous projects and programs to provide quality
theatrical experiences, education, and professional
advancement to a wide audience. The Playhouse continues
to offer courses in acting, voice, dance, and yoga
taught by professionally-trained instructors.
The Theatre Technology Apprenticeship Program
takes students behind the stage and into the scene
and costume shops and box office to explore technical
theatre career opportunities. This "Education
for Employment" program provides instruction
related to scenery, costumes, sound, rigging, lighting,
box office, house management, and marketing.
The Playhouse's annual production of "A
Christmas Carol", first produced in 1976,
tours nationally each holiday season as part a
joint project with the Nebraska Theatre Caravan
and has been performed in over 600 cities in 49
states and 3 Canadian provinces.
