Mid-America Council, Boy Scouts of America
The Mid-America Council, Boy Scouts
of America is the largest youth-serving agency
in the region, serving 58 counties in Nebraska,
Iowa, and South Dakota. The Council is headquartered
in Omaha and supports over 9,600 adult volunteers
and nearly 33,000 Scouts with direction from a
401-member Board of Trustees and a staff of 60
employees.
Fraser Stryker attorneys John Boyer, Bob Freeman,
and Mike Coyle are actively involved with the Council;
John Boyer is a past Council President and currently
serves on the Executive Committee of the Board
of Trustees along with Bob Freeman, the current
Board Secretary. Mike Coyle serves on the Council's
Board of Trustees.
Recently the Firm has been involved with the
following transactions for the Council:
- The receipt of a gift of several million
dollars worth of farm property in Iowa and the
subsequent sale of that property to create liquid
assets benefiting the Council's Endowment.
- The consummation of a joint venture relationship
between the Council and the Easter Seals Society
so as to enable special needs youths and adults
to enjoy outdoor camping experiences at one
of the Council's existing Scout camps.
- Negotiation and consummation of the merger
of a large adjoining Boy Scout council into
the Mid-America Council. The relocation of the
Council's Sioux City, Iowa, office into a newly-leased
space was a result of this transaction.
Teen Court is a voluntary juvenile diversion
program administered by the Council and has proved
to be very successful. (To

in originating and overseeing this program; Bob
is the Chairman Elect of the Juvenile Diversion
Executive Committee, succeeding U.S. Senior District
Court Judge Lyle Strom.
