PhotoFraser Stryker PC LLO wishes to congratulate Robert F. Rossiter Jr. on his confirmation to Nebraska’s U.S. District Court bench.

Rossiter, a long-time partner of the firm and leader of our Labor and Employment practice group, was originally nominated by President Barack Obama in June 2015, approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee in October, and after a unanimous vote (90-0) on Monday, June 27, 2016 the Senate confirmed Rossiter’s nomination.

Prior to the vote, speaking in support of Rossiter’s nomination, Sen. Deborah Fischer, R-Neb stated “I am confident that we have found a truly remarkable and qualified person to fill the vacancy on Nebraska’s federal district court, and I urge my colleagues to support Rossiter’s nomination so that he can put his outstanding intellect, skill and judgment to work for the American people,”

Rep. Brad Ashford, D-Neb., also recognized Rossiter as “an excellent attorney with a reputation for a rigorous and highly ethical commitment to the rule of law.”

Rossiter will replace U.S. District Judge Joseph F. Bataillon, who had taken senior status in 2014, after 17 years as an active judge.

In a press release following the confirmation, Laurie Smith Camp, the court’s Chief Judge, commented that “Bob Rossiter is respected throughout Nebraska’s legal community for his intelligence, skill, temperament, and commitment to justice. His distinguished career in trial practice, and his long history of public service, ensure he will be an outstanding addition to Nebraska’s federal bench.”

Fraser Stryker partner Steve Bruckner commented: “I first met Bob when we clerked together for federal judges here in Omaha. Bob not only epitomizes what it takes to be successful as a lawyer and judge, but also he is one of the best men I know. I am so happy for Bob, Mary Beth, and the entire Rossiter family. ”

Pat Barrett, who will lead the Labor and Employment group with Bob’s departure, added: “I have been privileged to call myself a friend of Bob’s for more than 30 years and a partner for eight years. He is a trial lawyer’s trial lawyer and one of the most outstanding employment lawyers around. We are fortunate to have someone of his caliber, temperament and experience appointed to the federal bench.”

Partner Mike Coyle observed that “Bob Rossiter has been a tremendous leader in the Bar, as a practicing lawyer, and as a member of our law firm. We will miss him here at the office, and I know our federal court will benefit greatly from his wisdom and experience.”
