On April 9, 2020, Gov. Pete Ricketts issued Executive Order No. 20-17, waiving late fees for personal property tax returns due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Typically, all personal property returns are due by May 1.  If the returns are filed after May 1, but before June 30, then a 10 percent penalty is assessed.  If the returns are filed after June 30, then a 25 percent penalty is assessed.  However, under Executive Order No. 20-17, the late fees are waived until December 31, 2020.

In addition to waiving late fees, the Order also extends the deadline to file an exemption for tangible personal property from May 1, 2020 until July 15, 2020.
