Fraser Stryker hosted a group of brilliant, ambitious law students during our 2023 Summer Associate program. We are excited to share insights from Anthony Thies about his experience this summer.

A student at Creighton University School of Law, Tony is a General Staff Member for the Creighton Law Review, the 2L Representative for the Sports and Entertainment Law Society, a member of the American Constitution Society, and a member of the Rural Law Society.

Prior to starting law school, he spent several years as a Secondary Education Teacher, focusing on history, geography, government, and psychology/sociology. During that time, Tony coached basketball, football, soccer, golf, and the Mock Trial team

Q: What knowledge did you gain from your Fraser Stryker attorney mentors?

A: I think the biggest piece of knowledge I gained from my Fraser Stryker attorney mentors would be the “practical” side of being an attorney in a law firm. Specifically, I learned a lot about the business side of communicating with clients, working with attorneys for other parties, and managing the day-to-day schedule and tasks.

Q: What is the greatest lesson about the legal field that you will take with you from your time at Fraser Stryker?

A: The greatest lesson about the legal field I will take from Fraser Stryker is learning how to balance priorities and the positive effects of being cooperative with opposing attorneys

Q: What “words of wisdom” would you like to pass along to the next class of Summer Associates?

A: Attack the summer with an open mind. Seek out the type of work that interests you but also don’t be afraid to take on opportunities in areas that you are unfamiliar with or you don’t think you are particularly interested in. Best case scenario, you will end up enjoying that work. Worst case scenario, you will know that you are not interested in that type of work but will have had a chance to learn something new.
