Having first started his legal career with Fraser Stryker, John returns to the Firm by way of Boulder, Colorado, to leverage his unique legal and business experience in the telecommunications industry. With over 30 years of industry experience and decades as a senior leader at global telecommunications companies, John is recognized as an industry leader and an expert in the field of international legal and regulatory issues.

International Legal & Regulatory Practice

While living in London for 8 years, John managed a diverse European-based legal team and was responsible for all legal and regulatory aspects of a 1500-employee, $900 million European business unit of a Fortune 100 company. He was part of the senior leadership team that expanded business operations to over 25 countries in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (“EMEA”). After his return to the US, John further extended his international experience by leading a large multi-national legal and regulatory team for a global telecommunications company with operations in North America, South America, EMEA, and Asia Pacific regions.

Broad Range of Complex Commercial Transactional Experience

John has worked on both the sales and procurement side for clients and has experience negotiating a full range of telecommunications service agreements, from basic MSAs to complex capacity and infrastructure sale agreements. He has worked extensively with product teams to rationalize existing product sets and develop unique service terms for new technologies. John is familiar with a wide range of topics, including issues relating to rights-of-way acquisition, terrestrial and subsea infrastructure construction, data center deployment and expansion, maintenance and operational issues, data privacy and cybersecurity, and international business expansion.

M&A Skills

John has taken different leadership roles in numerous merger, acquisition and divestiture transactions. These deals have ranged from straightforward asset purchases to complex mergers of global multi-billion-dollar companies. John has acted as lead counsel for due diligence activities on several transactions and has managed legal and regulatory aspects for post-closing integration and divestiture of several companies.

Beyond the Office

Outside of work, John enjoys spending time with his family and dogs, traveling, and exploring the outdoors. He is also a sports enthusiast who can be found on the hiking or gravel trails around Boulder, or cheering on his favorite sports teams, the Creighton Bluejays, Nebraska Huskers, and Arsenal Gunners.
