Fraser Stryker hosted a group of brilliant, ambitious law students during our 2023 Summer Associate program. We are excited to share insights from Isabella Washka about her experience this summer.

A student Creighton University School of Law, Isabella is a Dean’s Fellow Recipient and member of the American Constitution Society, Latino Law Student Association, and a 1L BARBRI Representative. Isabella graduated from Morehead State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration, summa cum laude, majoring in Marketing. While at Morehead, she received several honors, including Women’s Scholar Athlete of the Year, Outstanding Marketing Student of the Year, and Women’s Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar.

Q: How would you describe your Summer Associate experience to others?

A: Working at Fraser Stryker this past summer has been a rewarding experience. First of all, I have had the opportunity to learn so much from the different practice groups at the firm and be able to work on projects from attorneys in various areas. Additionally, I enjoyed learning about more practical matters that I have not been exposed to yet in law school, such as client interactions, mediations, trial preparations, and attending actual trials. I have enjoyed working on “real world” matters and seeing how our legal work impacts clients. Also, it was so fun to participate in out-of-office events to get to know attorneys and summer associates better while doing fun activities.

Q: What knowledge did you gain from your Fraser Stryker attorney mentors?

A: Some knowledge I gained from my Fraser Stryker attorney mentors was to take the initiative in asking questions and receiving feedback on projects. Additionally, they recommended obtaining projects from attorneys in as many practice areas as possible.

Q: Tell us about one of your proudest achievements while at Fraser Stryker.

A: One of my proudest achievements this past summer was having the opportunity to draft jury instructions. During my first year of law school, drafting jury instructions was not taught to us. So, it was exciting to learn how to draft this document, the research required for this document, and the type of thought processes to consider while drafting this document.
